The first half of this video, the live footage documenting UCSD's Quantitative Morphology Lab, was shot and edited by Sherman George and Brian Kantor. The computer animation was shot to film one frame at a time (multiple exposures per frame) and later transferred to video. The animation of a human brain is an excerpt from The Human Brain: A Dynamic View of Its Structures and Organization, created by Robert B. Livingston in 1976. The rest of the computer animation was created by Jeff Loomis and Phil Mercurio in 1982.
